Here is a chart when deciding on which color lense is best for its intended use.

https://www.costadelmar.com/us/en/performance-technology/lenses.

picking a lense is only part of the equation , as frame fit for every face is a little different.

Just because a friend Likes one style doesn't mean it is right for you.

Using Costa as an example they had approx. 100 different frame styles in 4 dif different widths.

Small, medium , large and xl.

If you buy a pair that doesn't fit your face your not going to be happy with them.

Good sunglasses should be tried on , not just bought online.

its also very hard to use just one color for all applications , though gray is a pretty good middle ground.

I have used just about every color lense they make .

Prefer the following

Sunrise early in day inshore and most times on a stream.

Gray every day use and quite a bit inshore

Green mirror inshore

Blue mirror off shore only, I don't like how black it makes inshore water especially moving in and out from under the t top .

a lot of personal preference , and its worth trying a few pairs before making a long term purchase.

I have every pair of Costas I have purchased over the last ten years. SO def don't understand guys that haven't had them hold up.

Im far from easy on glasses.

I saw few guys don't  wanna buy an expensive pair of glasses, IMO if your on the water ALOT its money well spent.

you only get 1 set of eyes.

Live has to be much simpler than that:shock:
I always like brown lenses for morning, evening, mid day, inshore, offshore and everything else  inbetween.

Brown are amber based, and just OK early morning and evening , especially on a stream that is in heavy cover.

Off shore brown is rough on your eyes IMO

I have 2 pairs of Oakley’s. One with a red lens, one with blue. I keep them both tucked into my visor so they don’t get scratched. Depending on time of day, snow, golf, fishing, driving into sun, etc. They have their differences.

My eyes are blue and very sensitive to sunlight. Two hrs outside without sunglasses and I have a headache. However, I don't like very dark lenses and brown allows more light in than blue for example. Always had brown lenses, with years out at sea and it never even crossed my mind they were inadequate. I guess I am lucky because I would have a nervous break down if I had to have several different sunglasses with me, for changing conditions as I go through my day.

guess comes down more to just having  the right tool for the task at hand.

except for the sunrise lenses I pretty much wear one set all day depending on where im fishing.

But the first and last hour are greatly enhanced wearing the brighter 30 % lense.

Sure if your eyes require it,you really see the difference, and seeing the difference is important to you.
I just don't over analyze things like this. That's my personality. I have one hand gun, one slug gun, one bird gun, one vormint gun, one rifle, on crossbow and one vertical bow and one pair of sunglasses-(that is if they are not lost somewhere :happywave:)

But you could do all those things with a shotgun and your crossbow,:happywave:

no need for all the rest

I see (no pun intended, believe it or not) that they also offer prescription lenses.  Know anyone who has gotten prescription lenses from them?  I'd need a set.

I have blue and green mirror in 400 g..  the blue is great on the steam where its shady the greens are great for driving imo..  I have 580 grey or charcoal that seem pretty universal.  I have 3 styles howler, wich sit higher and allow me to look under slightly to tie small hooks..  the hamlins are wider a perfect for driving..  the 400 are crystal clear and great for driving but not dark enough for all day on the boat where my fisch 580p is what I will use..  I went with plastic for the boat because I dropped a pair of glass on deck and they cracked..  while they where replaced I was beat for the day..  the glass is harder to scratch  but will crack easier..  plastic will scratch easier but wont crack if dropped and a bit lighter wich is no buggy for me

Hammer I've been keeping an eye on back country.com I want to get a pair of 580g in blue mirror but have to wait until i find them on sale this sight always has different 5 to 80 percent off..  i got my last pair of 580p for 74 bucks.  I am considering sending one of my 400 in and when I do paying the difference to have the 580s put in instead
