Is there a wait between passing hunter safety and getting 1st license?

Recommended Posts

My friend's son just passed the hunter safety course today and received his hunter education card.  He went to a shop to get his 1st license later in the day and the owner said his son was not in the system yet so he can't get his license.  My thought was that you wouldnt be in the system until you get your license and you get your 1st license by showing the hunter ed card.

The course manager for the State may not have finished putting everything into the system. Probably just a timing thing

Do you know for sure a day would work? It’s Saturday, who would enter it today?

Im positive in what I said that he was a walk in and he must enter his own info, maybe yours is correct as well but I don’t know that for positive. If he was not a walk in there’d be no wait. He could actually be a walk in and have signed up elsewhere. He’s still have a cid assigned to his name. Walk ins get a hunter ed card written by hand with no cid number because there is no record of them.

Give it a day is a figurative speech. Day, two, whatever. What's the rush, season over and we are dissecting this thing like the end of the world is coming

I know this is how it used to be. This was the only time, the first time, you could not get your license on line. You had to go with Hunter ed card so it could be entered for the first time.
Don't know if this is still the way they do it...I don't think so.

It's really not a big deal.

However, he was not a walk in.  He registered well beforehand and had a CID before the class.  His card was printed not handwritten.

When I got my first license several years ago, I got it the day I finished my hunters ed course. I remember going that afternoon after finishing up in the morning. You have to go to a store/agent because they need to see your hunter's ed card. Show your card, and they can give you the license. Especially if he already had a CID#, should not be a problem.

That said, unless he's going out for snow geese or woodchuck or wants to go to a public range by himself, no need to rush since seasons are all over :crying:

not that i can remember. i remember just bringing my hunter education card to efingers. the guy behind the counter looked at it, and printed out my license. maybe things have changed. i bought my first bow license about 13 years ago. being now that its 2019. im sure its all computerized.

also. off topic. but im happy to say my first fishing and hunting license was still the old paper license. not this bright green plastic crap. your friggin signature will smear off with wet hands.

What is a Conservation ID Number (CID#)?
The 9-digit Conservation ID Number (CID#) is a lifetime number which will appear on all NJ fishing, hunting and trapping licenses, permits and stamps. It is assigned during the first use of the license system on this site or at a license agent. It should be used to log into the license system.

I would say the guy was wrong, probably have to use your SS# first time to get a CID #
