There was a study on (I think) a Canadian island that has whitetail on it.  Because of a deficiency in minerals, they actually eat small birds and take them from the nest to get the necessary calcium (I think that was what they needed).  Weird stuff. 

In certain areas they eat fish too.

A couple weeks ago my buddy sent me a video of deer eating their fallen comrade during a bad winter. I would've never believed it
