Anyone hunting turkey with a 2 3/4 inch gun and shell combination? Me, I am going to pattern my old H&R.

I hunt turkey with a 870 using 2 3/4" hevi shot turkey blend. They pattern nice and you can reach out with them better that any other shell that I have come across. BUT THEY ARE EXPENSIVE !!

2 3/4 #4's = turkey cutlets

I have shot birds with 2-3/4",3" and 3-1/2". 2-3/4" is fine and can shot 40 yds effectively. To me turkey hunting is to call them as close as possible.

2 3/4” load of #6 will do them no problem, unless you’re like some of the guys on here that need 60yrd patterns LOL

If my boys tag out early and if I get out I'll be taking my dad's Stevens 311 12ga. Will probably have 5s in the mod barrel and 4s in the full barrel.

Hello fellas. This is my first post so no one knows me but I’d like to add something to this.

For starters 50 yards w 2-3/4” #4s would not be a great idea. #4 already has less shot and pattern density would be less commonly w many holes. 2-3/4” only add to that.

Not gonna tell guys what to do but we need to realize effective range for any weapon. There’s a point where our pattern density becomes too thin for shooting. That needs to be decided. The game deserves our best not a gamble.

Federal makes TSS they’re actually much denser than hevi shot n a bit more expensive. You can lower the cost of that rolling them yourself but you’d still be looking at prob 6 bucks a shell. Beats Federals 10 bucks though. Hevi actually isn’t much denser (heavier) than lead.

Course we could always just call em closer and use lead. Learn effective w whatever you decide and stay within that. One other thing many don’t realize, turkey loads, especially overly tight load/choke combos often shoot off poa. You need sights to get poa and poi the same. To check you’d need a large sheet of paper to see where whole load hits. If guys know this forgive me

Since no one mentioned it..... Welcome.

Very good post.
