Anyone every hear of this reason for coyotes in NJ. I always thought they were dropped from black helicopters.

From a local webpage: "The coyotes were killed off during the 1800s in New Jersey. Some idiot from the state of Nj thought it would be a great idea to bring them back to kill the deer inside the fenced in area at Edna Mahan Womens' Correctional Center. Once those very smart coyotes killed off those sweet little deer in the femce, the coyotes dug under the fence and escaped Edna Mahan. And they spread throughout NJ . Thank the brilliant state biologists for that!" :hmmmer:

And is it any wonder the battle is hard?

It is my understanding that we historically never had Coyotes on the east coast. Prior to the White mans arrival we had wolves till we  eradicated them.

EasternCoyotes , eventually filled the void

:agree:

The Eastern Coyote (Coyote / Dog / Wolf mix) is a relatively new critter.  And it got here on its own, it wasn't brought here.

No theory would surprise me about how the coyotes were reintroduced into the state. What would surprise me is hearing someone from the state actually admitting they had something to do with it.

Its fun to see all of the surprise by some that they even exist here. Comments from they are deadly and more aggressive than wolves to seeing them all over the place in the daytime. I guess no one ever paid attention or enrolled in any natural science classes, but aced the tests in qwerty keyboarding.

It is called migration and dispersal. Mother Nature's way of species survival
