Bear hide tanning part 1

Well now that I am done with hunting I am starting a new project. I pulled out mt bear hide from last year so I can tan it.i fleshed it this morning I thought coon was bad.i will keep you posted.

Let us know how it comes out. I used to use that same tanning solution and was never happy with it. Tanned deer hides as well as some coon pelts and the finished leather product was always stiff and brown no matter how much you broke it in. Sending mine off to get commercially tanned from now on.

I did a beaver with that stuff. I used a sander to break it and came out decent

I did a second coat of salt today. Tomorrow I will put in a salt bath .I will take pictures tomorrow when i take it out of the salt bath.

Took the hide  out of the salt bath looks pretty white now I have to let dry for a day or two then thin the skin and clean up anything I missed.
