BowhunterNJ
Just curious if anyone here belongs to a gun club or range, and how you like it and the facilities? I've been a member at Fort Dix Range 14 before and it's pretty nice, $60/year and $3/hour to shoot (last time I was there). Nice to have a place to shoot rifles out to 250 yards at least. thefirstndsecond
thefirstndsecond
Yes. Belong to gun club in NJ. With 100 yard outdoor range and electric trap. Also belong to indoor pistol range. I will be looking to shoot 300 yards this year with my 7mm so I will have to visit a place with that range. Haskell_Hunter
I belong to the ANJRPC with Cherry Right range access. It's a decent range, lots of shooting options there and for the most part well run. I just finished my NRA Basic Pistol class there over the weekend. Great class, great instructor. Cherry ridge has a 50-yard pistol range, 100-yard, and a 200-300-yards ranges. There's an archery range, and they have an automated skeet range in the back. I've shot at every range there except for the 200-300-yard range because I don't have anything to shoot there. Hopefully this year I'll pick up a .308 and start using that range. There's also a clubhouse that has a tiny shooting store, a meeting room, kitchen, and rest rooms. I am trying to get into the Riverdale range because it's literally in the town next to mine. I want to be able to shoot my Glock year-round, and an indoor range close to home would be a welcomed luxury. BowhunterNJ 1 Sapere aude. Audeamus. CJ3a
Haskell is there a long waiting list for riverdale? I spent most of my money on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.
Haskell_Hunter
From what they say on their web site, yes. The instructor for my pistol class is a member, and I think he's on the board over there too. He said they just had a new member orientation there and made it seem like it will be a while until the next one. Regardless, I'll be putting an application in. They say right on the form that it helps to know someone. Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory. Haskell_Hunter
Yes, took NRA Basic Pistol at Cherry Ridge. Here is the class list. http://www.anjrpc.org/?page=train_class_schedule This is the guy who taught the course. Highly recommend him, learned a lot and he spent a good amount of time with us at the range working on a whole bunch of different pistol techniques. It was good to have an expert set of eyes commenting on my form and shot placement. I saw immediate improvements that day on the range. http://pbrtraining.com BowhunterNJ 1 Sapere aude. Audeamus. PV216
I'm a long time member of central jersey rifle and pistol club. They have a bunch of pistol pits which they just rebuilt, skeet range, 200 yard rifle range, 300 yard rifle range, outdoor pistol range with rotating target holders, 24 hour indoor pistol range, and an archery range. The first year is expensive, about 600$. But the membership dues are about 270$ a year after that. You can attend optional meetings, or do range work to get money off your dues. It's not cheap but it's a great range. I'll try and put up some pics. Hatchet and BowhunterNJ 2 "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." BowhunterNJ
Pat, How crowded is the range in general? Is it open membership signup, or do they cap it at a certain number of members?
PV216
Matt In the pics of the 200 yard range, I had the place to myself (maybe one other person). In about 10 years of membership I've never had to wait for a spot to open. The outside gun pits get a little crowded on spring/summer weekends. They do hold NRA shoots and other events (cowboy action, rifle and pistol competitions, etc) where certain ranges are closed unless you sign up for the event. Generally speaking, it's not that crowded at all most of the time. The couple weekends before 6 day is a different story lol. I don't believe there is any cap on membership numbers. If you still wanna check it out, I'll take you as a guest this spring. BowhunterNJ 1 "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." BowhunterNJ
Cool Pat, let's do that. I'm thinking about joining one, in the air between joining a club or just doing Range 14 again. The main problem is having a place to shoot rifles PV216
