BHC Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I haven't tried the Accutip 2-3/4" 12ga ammo as of yet, but I just ordered 6 boxes. Curious from those that use this ammo in a Remington rifled barrel (1187, 1100, 870) what groups are you getting? My 1187 shoots the Lightfields EXP very well, but been wanting to shoot a flatter flying slug, and love the Accutips in 20ga. Thanks in advance !!
BowhunterNJ Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Man, I don't have any experience with slugging out of those with that ammo. Ever since I went to my H&R, I haven't looked back. The only downside to the H&R is that it's heavy...toting around my T/C Triumph ML is so much nicer, I might look into a lighter slug gun option next year Let us know how you do with the Accutips! I assume you are shooting them out of that 11-87?

Look into the Savage 220f.....Hands down the most accurate slug gun I own and have shot!!! Yes, 11-87 BowhunterNJ 1
Haskell_Hunter Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I've shot some of those slugs out of my 11-87 (rifled, cantilever) but not to sight them. So unfortunately all I can tell you is they shoot straight. I did, however, go back to my 3" copper sabots from Remington after testing 5 different slugs earlier this year. The advantage of the 2-3/4" over the 3" copper slugs are that they have less kick IMHO. I could shoot twice as many 2-3/4" than 3" easily. Might just be a mental thing, but they felt easier on the shoulder. So I've shot them, liked them, but don't have anything off of a sled at a range. Sapere aude. Audeamus. BowhunterNJ Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Probably comes down to the individual gun/bullet combo, but in my experiences I've found 2-3/4" slugs to group better when I've tried them in that past.
BHC Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 In my 33 plus years of hunting, I come to experience that when it comes to the 12ga with slugs the 2-3/4" is perfect, the 20ga. I would opt for the 3"
Palawman30 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Joe Ive shot 2 3/4" accutips out of my Mossberg 695 bolt for a while now and they shoot great. If you hit a deer it falls over!!! Ive yet to have a deer take more then 10 steps after shooting.... I usually sight in at 100 yards with mine and get around 4" groups. Ive yet to shoot at any deer further than that in the woods... jerseyhunter Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Joe, I thought you used to shoot copper solids, I know I got the Lf's off you but the CSolids fly great to 125-50 not like the lightfields 2 1/2" at 50 and you'll still be in the boiler. I used to shoot clovers out of my 1100 with them at 100. I just didn't like the way they passed through sometimes if you didn't hit bone or a rib. That's why I like the LF's. But just sticking to the Muzzy. Less weight to carry and I'm to old to be dragging 2 at a time out the woods. Hell I'm lucky to see 2 anymore. Edited December 20, 2013 by jerseyhunter
BHC Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 Never shot the Copper Solids, always the Lightfield EXP, tried the Winchester Partion Gold they where OK
lefteye Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I have a 12 gauge 870 with a 20 inch rifled barrel and get great groups with 2 3/4 inch Accutips. They kick hard enough and do a good job on the deer. The best choice I made was to turn an 870 into a dedicated slug gun. Patriotism means to stand by the country.
