Savage 220 Ejection Issue--Update

I spoke to Savage about the ejection problem. They will fix it for free although the gun is out of warranty. They want me to ship it to them for repair. According to the guy I spoke with shipping for repair does not require an FFL to be involved.

The problem now is finding a proper shipping box. My first stop was closest firearms retailer. They didn't have an extra box. Most people when the purchase a firearm take it home in  the box. I knew that was a long shot, but it didn't hurt to ask. I tried my local UPS store, Staples and a self storage place, none had a suitable box. I guess I could try some other firearms retailers. I will do that by phone instead of driving all over. The only other option I can think of is to buy a new hard case. It should come in a box and would offer the best protection. The problem with that is I wonder if I would get it back.

I am going to call Savage again to get their advice.

Anyone on NJWW have a suggestion??

Had the same issue when I sent my Rec7 back to Barrett. Must have called every Gunshop looking for box to no avail.  Barrett didn’t want to send me a box. They were nice enough to email me a free shipping label. I put the gun in a hard case and made a box and sent it to them.

Go to your towns recycling center and grab a few bigger cardboard boxes that are flattened out and make one yourself

Get some bubble wrap and a big tube. They sell carboard shipping tubes. You could even use a PVC tube. It should be about 6 inches in diameter.

Take the gun apart and wrap the barreled action and the stock. Put them in the tube an tape it up good.

BTW they might not need the stock. You then could get away with a 4" tube.

  • 4 weeks later...

Update:  My repaired Savage 220 is shipping back to me today.  I am impressed that they fixed it free of charge when it is out of warranty. The only cost to me was to ship it there. Then again I don't know if it will arrive with COD shipping charges.

In talking to the customer service guy it sounds like they replaced all the extractor and ejector components.

Woodsman, I will be contacting you to return your box in the next few days. Thanx again.
