The slight "quarter to" shot - WORST ANGLE IMHO

Was just catching this show "Closing the distance"  on TV while working (and posting stuff on NJWW), and it offers some excellent footage as to why I hate the quartering "to" shot more than any other.

One is perfect example of being a little high and forward and also shows significant ducking the arrow right about at 8:26, and the other is perfect example of being low and back (at what first looks like perfect shot, until you realize the angle of the buck).

The second buck is supposedly "the same buck" but significantly smaller a year later, and the "hit" occurs around 14:46, and again - quartering "to".   This time the buck didn't drop the foot he did the year prior and his daughter aimed low and hit low.

I give them credit for showing that it's not always "Boo-yah smoked 'em dirt nap city baby".   The post-shot commentary was spot on as to why it was not a success.

Some real nice bucks in old Mexico - great footage and appreciate them sharing two really bad hits that at first one would not assume "so bad".  Nice to see some honesty for educational purposes.

I think this is some of the best "shot selection" footage I have seen on a hunting show, in terms of educational value.

If you must take the slight quartering to shot, better to be higher and back - just look at how those lungs angle...

Neither shot in that episode accomplished that.  I tried to mark the bad hits from the video in  yellow, and where I think a better shot for the slight quarter to would be in green.

I will never shoot a quarter-to shot ever again (it was my first and only arrow slung that hit a deer and it will be my last). I hit the deer in the neck. Ran 400 yards and I needed a dog to find it. Hauling it out of the thick stuff where it finally dropped nearly killed me :)

Shooting is horrendous on most of them shows. They hit em far back all the time. They r horn hunting.  They could care less if they salvage the meat

Amen to that - but this show was so different in that regard, with their abject honesty I felt it was a good one to share.

Bingo, i remember a show long ago where Steve Bartkowski shot a buck straight from behind in the ass as it walked under him. Said he was aiming for the femoral artery WTF

I look to to a point where she took the firs shot and I think thats an easy one to make. Why would anyone, at any time aim this low?
However' I agree quarter to is not the shot to wish for
