Popular Post buckfever1974 560
Its been a family affair this season with both my girls helping rebuild a damaged blind over the off season. They both can now get to the spots we have and bait on their own which has been very helpful. My youngest who didn’t hunt yesterday helped me go through the snow storm to put out apples, corn and Pinch Point to help her sister have a chance. Went out out early but trying to be quiet I that crunching frozen snow sucks. Ended up following huge bear tracks thinking they were mine from the previous day and took a few minutes to realize where we were. Got to the blind in plenty of time though and the amount of wildlife we saw was fantastic. Clean snow and great sunrise....I love hunting in fresh snow. Only downside was no deer activity but it didn’t really matter. It was a great hunt. Trying to find an opportunity to spend with a teenage daughter is tough these days and the whispered conversation was priceless. She he asked to go home for a nap before coming back after a late breakfast. It was her day but the added rest was worth it. We were back at it and in the blind by 2pm. I felt so confident but for the next hour or so, more of the same...no movement. At around 315, out of the corner of my eye and in front I see a decent bodied deer walking towards our shooting lanes. I started smacking her leg but she couldn’t see anything with the blind obstructing her view. She got ready anyway and within a couple minutes a buck had made it’s way coming towards us at about 30 yards. She was ready to shoot right away but I told her to give him a chance to settle in and for her to relax. As it moved to under 25 yards and started to feed it took a slightly better angle. I tried to tell her where to aim but she told me to stop talking. Lol. Not used to taking a full back seat. I trust her so she was on her own. I love gun hunting and I love that 20 gauge Mossberg Bantam....she fires and it rocked him but he took off on a run with a new hole behind his boulder. He was hit hard, just a matter of how far he was gonna get. 40 yards or so later he did his dance and it was over. Crimson blood trail can be seen from the blind and the fist pumping, fast talking and hugs were underway. Easy tracking as you can see if the video posts . Deer is is a decent sized 4 pointer 2 on the fork horn and two under developed points on the other base glad to get him out of the genetic pool but you can’t eat antlers and it’s a trophy to us . Equipment....20 gauge Mossberg Bantam with cantilever slug barrel - Bone Collector 3x9x40mm scope-Remington 20 gauge accu-tip slugs-(unknown cheak pads for the stock)-apples, corn and Pinch Point from A & W Nature Labs.....always brings them in by us.
