Choke tube ??

Recommended Posts

I never owned a shotgun that took chokes, all the shotguns I have is a Larona SxS, Remignto 870 30" barrel full choke n a 870 Remington with a slug barrel. Got a good deal on a Browning Goldhunter 30" vent barrel the only tubes he had was plus modified , said he deer hunted with it. My question is will these tubes do for deer or do I need to buy different one , if so what do you recommend ? Thanks

You add camo to anything, it immediately becomes cool.

Honestly, I've done a ton of patterning…and you never know what your gun will wind up liking.

I have dozens of chokes I've tried for various shots out of my shotguns, and anything I read that was recommended "off the shelf" was not a guarantee (hence the dozens of chokes).

Having said that, I'd recommend two approaches:

1) Start with your stock chokes and see if you can find a shell that shoots well out of them at your intended maximum range (cost is shells and your time, but not chokes)

2) Consider all the money you may wind up spending on shells and chokes, and go with a custom shotgun load designed for your gun with a tested choke for the combo. Again not a guarantee, but I've found it's often MUCH closer and well within acceptable patterning.

An example of #2 is Nitro Ammunition company. If I would have skipped my testing, I would have saved a TON of time (days and days of time, gas, etc), the cost of dozens of chokes, all the varieties of shells I tried with each…and could have rolled that into custom ammo and a single choke with enough ammo for the rest of my life haha

Just some food for thought given my experiences! :)

Lol ! Got 5 bills into this gun which is a little more than I could afford. But this gun felt like it was built custom for me n couldn't resist. I know the deal with finding shells to match the gun. Just don't want to waste money on shells if the choke isn't right for buckshot .he did trough a box of 3" mag double 00 says they shoot well out of it . Will start there if the choke I have is ok for deer! Thanks again
