I had a tough day fishing for trout. I started at point mountain only to be surprised by the bridge being out. Haven't been up there in a while I guess there are making it a 2 lane bridge. Anyway I hiked up a bit and threw a bunch of nymphs all morning long. Think I had one hit in one pool but couldn't be certain. This time of year the leaves act like fish strikes. Decided to call it and drive South to high bridge to do a little fishing. Walked downstream from the baseball fields, found a nice run with a tree in the middle of the south branch. Threw my usual nymphs. Nothing. Tied on a black Woolley bugger with flashabou, and bingo. Caught this rainbow right at the root  ball in the river. He put up no fight. Just couple of head shakes and followed my line right to my feet. Anyway just a beautiful fall day on the river and glad I was able to hook and land one.

Bad photo of the rainbow.

Nice, when in doubt get the woolly bugger out. Small dark zonkers work great this time of year also. Next time out tie on a double drop, small dark nymph behind a rainbow warrior. Good fall combo

The dreaded fall leaf debacle. The next couple of weeks will be tough fishing on windy days with all the leaves throughout the water column. But that’s why we have archery season! Nice job getting out and catching one.

It's annoying for sure. Ran into a couple guides from Shannon's in high bridge.

You spent the day on a beautiful river with the feel of fall in the air.  That's a win in my book.

The fish was a bonus.

This is also a bonus time of year if you are into birding in any way.  The species diversity is amazing in fall and spring.  But add fall colors and it's not to be beat.  The Hook was full of birds of all habitat types moving south ahead of winter.

I have been dying to get out no time

Yeah tell me about it. It's hard to get out sometimes. Lately my life has been hectic with chores and work. It was really nice to stop and slow down to smell the fall rivers. Like rusty said the fish was a bonus. A good bonus.
