Postponing My VA Hunting Trip

Tarhunt

Recommended Posts

Decided to wait a few weeks before I go down to VA to hunt the Palmanator. The fields haven't been cut yet and it's going to be in the low 80's this coming weekend. Plus, my son started to work weekends. So, I'm going to wait a few weeks before I go down to archery hunt.

This weather is crazy! I was hoping for cold cool October. It’s like it’s spring/ summer all over again. I don’t blame you for waiting

Actually in the majority of the country right now, the weather is quite normal.   Very cool to cold in the mid-west.  Cold in central Canada and warm in the south and southwest.   Upper midwest could get some snow early next week.

I’m referring to our weather here in Jersey.

Yeah this hot weather is not fun for hunting. Don't wait to long as you know Palmanator seams to disappear as season goes on. Have you guys get any more pictures of him?

Targeting one mature buck, you are better off waiting until at least the end of October. The mature deer will be checking the resident does first and will be on their feet during the day.  Later in Nov they start wandering off further searching for does. If you educate the buck to early it will definately diminish your chances.

My opinion anyways

No. The last photo was in the beginning of August. He did the same disappearing act last year as well. I had one photo of him about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile away back in October and then two in December but, always at night. Where he goes, I don't know. We thought that he beds nearby but, not totally sure. My son set up a ground blind near a trail going into a thick pine forest. I think that we have a better chance during the muzzleloader season in early November.
