iluv2hunt Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Had a bunch of logging done on the property I hunt so it's opened a lot of the woods. Is it to late to plant something. If not to late. Is there something I can put in that won't require a ton of prep. The ground is already expose in a lot of areas due to the logging equipment. They will grading a lot of the area once they are done in a week or so. Any advice would appreciated.
Livesintrees Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Right now your only option is winter rye. It won’t hit full height but will give you something at the very least. If it hits bare dirt, it will grow.
Zipper Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Agreed, rye is awesome. Winter wheat also. Get good seed to soil contact and pray for a little rain. "All men die, not all men really live". WW
tcook8296 Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 (edited) Winter rye and winter wheat. Ive done a couple staggered plantings since labor day. Just did some more rye today. Rye will grow fast and will grow until temps get down to around 38 degrees. It will help with soil erosion and suppresses weeds. You will have a clean plot come spring.
