Well it is time to get the rattling horns out and the grunt tube tuned up. Since the biologists tell us that the first mature doe will come into estrus about the second week of October here in New Jersey, this will be the best time for you to rattle in that big old buck you are hoping to arrow. With all the bucks ready to go as indicated by the amount of new scrapes you might see popping up in your deer woods, and with all the does not quite ready for love, the sound of two buck fighting might just get that most dominate buck in your area to come into to your rattling set up. The most dominate buck will come into the sound of what he thinks are two buck fighting not to defend his area, but to defend his right to be the first to bread any doe that is in estrus. Some folks don’t think that rattling can be effective in New Jersey but nothing could be further from the truth. The problem we have in this state is an out of balance buck to doe ratio. Since there are so many does available, as many of them come into estrus there is much less of a need or likelihood for a buck to have to fight for a doe to breed. Rattling and grunting when the very first does are coming into estrus will be the most likely time a buck will respond in our state since he wants to get the party started first! I have had good success over the years in rattling up some very nice bucks in my area of North Jersey as have many of my friends by starting my rattling by the second week of October. I use a combination of rattling and grunting along with a good estrus scent. This combination will work better than your might expect if it is used in combination at the right time. Well, the right time is fast approaching so I would suggest that you consider trying this combination this season and see what it can do for you. As they say in the New York State lottery…”hey you never know.” This of course is just my opinion. I know that there are many here on this site with a different opinion but I am just throwing it out there for you to consider. I hope that everyone gets to arrow that buck that they have been chasing or hoping for. One of the best things about deer hunting is that there are lots of tricks and tactics you can try. Not all of them work all of the time but if just one does then, bingo, you are a winner! I wish the best of luck to everyone, be safe and good hunting.

today at the show talked to a few that called in deer already. I would have already been banging the horns easy, if I was able to get out, this week I will be out calling.
