Took a ride to the lake today and always pass this shop on the way. One of these days we are going to stop in to get some burgers and or steaks. Anyone ever have them or go here? I assume they are similar to beef. The shop is In Hamlin near Lake Aerial, Pa.

Never been there but have had bison burger in the past and from what I remember it was very similar to beef with just the ever slightest gamey taste.

Where did you have bison that tasted gamey? My wife who will not touch any of my venison actually liked bison burgers. And if they were gamey she would have never eaten it.

Maybe gamey was the wrong adjective, I just meant that you could tell it was not beef but more of a "wild" animal taste. Like  I said it was very faint. This is going back at least ten years now. I couldn't even tell you the name of the place.

It was good though I remember liking it.

My in laws live about 10 minutes from there in “The Hideout”. I’ve never stopped there but my father in law has. He said it’s good but pricey. Not far from there is Kundla’s which is a really good bbq spot.

All beef if grass finished (meaning it was raised on only grazing the pasture) will have that beef taste, not that swill grain fed steak has no flavor. Then you have grass fed, where at some point the cow ate grass one or toe times but was switched to grains.

Grass finished meat will have the least amount of fat. The more grain it is finished with (90-180 days) the more fat (weight).

I love Bison and will eat it over cow any day. Go get some you won't regret it.

Someone must of given you a piece of the taint. Give it a try and let us know what you think LPJR.

I notice a musky smell and flavor to the meat.  Maybe some would call it "gamey".   Had it quite a few times over the years.  I even shot two that I butchered up myself and also noticed it.  Maybe it is just the normal flavor of the meat.

Nomad,I felt that way with some Elk that  I  ate. I've always said, if I have to pick my last meal it would be aged Beef! lol
