par for the course

Recommended Posts

I still want an excuse to get out of the house for an hour or two, even though most hunting seasons are closed. Groundhog is in-season, and during turkey hunting a few weeks ago, I ran into a spot where I saw two groundhogs living large (of course, never saw or heard any turkeys while there), so I decided to go over there this morning just to see what's going on.

I'm pulling into the parking area, not even out of the truck, and 30 yards away I see a hen turkey quickly shuffling away.

Walk to the spot where I saw the groundhogs a few weeks earlier, and after standing there for 5 minutes, out from the woods walks a doe and starts feeding in the field about 50 yards away, never seeing me. She casually has breakfast for a few minutes, turns around, and walks back into the woods where she came from.

I never saw a ground hog. :whatever:

In other words, par for the course. :D
