A&W mineral blitz

Recommended Posts

Officially gone through 100lbs now of A&W Mineral Magnet.  The last 3 weeks the consumption has been insane.   One site I started in February with Lucky Buck, but quickly converted over to A&W and just ringed it with LB in Early April.   The others site was started with MM, ringed with A&W Pinchpoint.     Both are getting constant attention and started to get dug out.   I am going to have to contact Greg and Stan to get another delivery soon, will definitely need another 100lbs to get through June and July.

Enjoy the pics!

Not sure where or if they distribute  down your way, but reach out and see what you can work out.  It is also sold in bags in stores up here at least.

I am not knocking Lucky Buck - it's been a great attractant for me, but that's really all it is. It's too high in salt content, but they do love it.   A&W has some salt but only the preferred amount to grow antlers, and it does have apple attractant as well (same as LB).  I would highly recommend replacing your main site with heavy dose of MM, and just lightly ring the outer edge with LB.   These are the best results I have ever gotten with mineral and I been doing it for 10 years.

How close are your sites to water?

I have mine 2 steps away from the pond- not getting much action.
Tried a&w and lucky buck and trophy rock.
Now getting hit more than last month which was 0 pics.
Back to lucky buck now and trophy rock that still is lasting from March.
Lucky buck gets hit when fresh but down not last 1 month. Maybe all the rain we have had is washing it away.
The deer are not digging up the ground..
I started mine in rich dark soil that raked up and fluffed very easy. I loosened the top 3" and each time I apply minerals I rake it into the soil

There is water everywhere right now, my woods is a swamp basically and does have a creek running through it that does dry up in drought conditions.   However - the upper site is high atop a hill, not near any direct water source but water within 1/2 mile in any direction. The upper site is getting more bucks, the lower site is getting more doe but upper had just over 1300 pics and lower had just over 1000 pics in 17 days.

It sounds like you are over-doing it as well. Too much.   A&W is a supplement, and LB is an attractant as is Trophy Rock.  Don't waste any more money, if they are not at least hitting your attractants.   Next season - start earlier, and ring A&W with food source like pinch point or corn, and just stick with that.  Keep ringing it with food source until they start hitting the minerals then no more food.

Jay normally the wetter the mineral site gets the more distributed the minerals leach into the ground.

The deer will really eat that dirt quick to get at the minerals.

While some guys swear by lucky buck, my results with it have only been OK

My established sites using the normal homemade mix guys use gets hit a lot harder.

I use Buck Jam as an attractant on those sites once a year..and it def makes a difference.

Great pics Jack. They are hammering my mineral magnet as well. Need to replenish also. That buck with the torn ear is going to be easy to differentiate between the other bucks as it grows.

Oh I already know exactly which buck he is. Anyone care to guess the age of the split ear buck staring at cam?
