There must be something in the air.  Since late yesterday, I've heard from 4 different hunting buddies about planning our annual fall hunts.  Sometimes the BSing on the phone and emails, the anticipation and the plans themselves are almost as fun as being out there with the boys.  This year will be a 4 day bow and birds trip to our PA hunting camp with days 1 and 2 being 100% bow for bucks and day 3 bow in the am and pm with grouse and woodcock over my Brittany during the daytime.  Trip # 2 will be a first for us as one of my two great friends bought a farm in NY outside Cooperstown and we're adding an opening day weekend rifle trip for deer to that property.  And our theme will be lever action rifles.  The other buddy going with us owns my PA hunting camp mentioned in hunts #1 and 3.  Trip # 3 will be at least my 33rd straight year for PA buck season at our Potter County camp where we'll be in October for bow and birds.  If I find time, I'll add an up and back day trip in my buddy's plane for grouse and woodcock during a weekday in later October.  And of course, NJ will provide numerous all day or part day hunting for small game and deer excursions with the bow and shotgun and often with these same buddies.

It won't be long now!  What are some others planning for?

A lot of bow hunting in N.J..  Then the big day, Youth Gun Day, with my 10 year old son.  Then off to Maine for rifle deer hunting in November.  May stay a few extra days into Muzzle Loader week.

Would like to throw another trip in there somewhere. May do it last minute.  Was thinking maybe Ohio gun, or Adirondacks rifle for a 3 or 4 day hunt.  Don't have any land to hunt there and would probably explore some public areas.  Been looking at aerial maps and trying to pick a spot.

Who's more excited, you or your son?  Have a great day in the woods!  38 years ago this December, I sat on a rock on Monday morning of 6 Day with a single shot Stevens 20 ga. with 00 buckshot with my dad sitting next to me on my first ever deer hunt and I remember it like it was yesterday.  Great memories!

Youth gun is going to be great with him.  My girls are not youths anymore, so now it's his turn.  We will be going out on opening day of bow and hunting all bow season, so I'm thinking he should have a least one deer under his belt by Youth Gun and we will probably try and wait for a nice buck.

I also have vivid memories of hunting with my Dad as a kid and shooting my first deer with an old Browning Auto 5 and buckshot up in Stokes S.F.  It was a button buck during the 1 day doe season in 1976.  We were very happy to get any deer back then.
