Upper Delaware float trip

Got invited to do a float trip on the upper Delaware  by my buddy Steve.

Fished 5 miles of the West Branch and 5 miles of the main stem with Sweetwater guide service.

Mike worked his butt off to put us on some big Browns .

water conditions were good , but the super bright sun on the clear water made for a tough bite.

we managed to catch 10 nice Browns from 17"- 19" with the bigger fish just not out to play.

looking for 24" plus sized fish up there .

beautiful day out there .

was more drift boats fishing there than I have ever seen.

talked to a lot of passing boats who didn't  have a fish , so we did ok.

..crazy how many giant piles of ice are still there . Some as big as a football field 6' high .

Ten wild browns during pre-hatch is an excellent day. Nothing has started to hatch up there yet because our hatches are getting back to normal.

Did you see any rising fish or was it all streamers and nymphs?

No pics john, only take pics of big fish there , everything is released quickly right from the release net.

BB we were throwing hard baits. (Count downs and black maribou jigs )

fly guys were not catching , though was def a few fish rising .

would love to be up there to see the miles of rising fish, and fly fish for them then during the big hatches

The west branch and main stem are as close to fishing a western river as you will get here in the east.    Once you get a taste of that river system everything else pales in comparison, especially during the green drake, brown drake and eastern salmonfly hatch.
