a side table for my wife's nick nacks lol.  first 3 photos from todays work. solid oak top with pine shelves.

first ripped down the lumber to size and get the rough millwork off the pieces

then ran the cut lumber through the planner to get the tops and bottoms fresh

finished the day with biscuit joining the sides together, will let this set up overnight before moving on

next week I will dado the sides to fit the 2 shelves, get the frame built, get the doors built (might do raised panel doors) and get the table trimmed before I work on the oak top

more pictures to follow...

How do you like that planer? I am looking to pick one up soon.

I just picked up a biscuit joiner and used it for the first time last week.

Nice tool

love the biscuit joiner. really does a nice job aligning glued boards. the planer is great. really makes a difference in the finished product. only thing I'm having a hard time with is snipe. but the snipe is only happening with the first and last inch of each board which is usually waste to me anyway. I did trip a breaker today with the planner. but that was when I was taking 1/8" off 12" boards with my shop vac running into the dust collection. thinner boards have never tripped the breaker. overall I like it and does the job I need it to do.

i had more free time to work on the table. heres the progress

after gluing the sides last week, this week I made the dado cuts to fit the shelves into the sides

then did a dry fit to make sure everything is fitting together, after the dry fit I glued and nailed the shelves in place.

I let that sit for a few hours to let the glue set up. then I cut the back (1/4" birch) and used brads to fasten it.

then trimmed it out. not pictured here is the trim going across the middle shelf.

next I will be building the doors, getting those fastened on. and then will start the oak top. when my wife and I buy our house soon I will build a permanent wood shop instead of working on saw horses lol. it gets the job done for now.

Nice work, what type of doors are you going to make?

I may build raised panel doors. still not sure if I wanna raise the panels with my table saw or buy the panel raising router bit. I may try both but would hate to have to buy double the wood just to see.
