Raising Birds?

Where can I find a list of rules and reg on raising quail and or chukars in Jersey?  Wanna keep some penned for dog training.

I'm not sure, but contact the Division.  Predators and disease will most likely take a huge toll on pen raised birds until you get the hang of it.  I know a few folks that tried and all gave up after year 1.  Keeping a pen full of birds you buy elsewhere for dog training is far easier.  But raising them yourself from eggs is not as easy as it sounds.  Building a holding pen is not tough, but larger flight pens and incubator facilities to hatch them out can cost a lot.

I was thinking more along the lines of buying chicks around 8 weeks old and keeping them til they were used. Are permits needed to keep gamebirds in jersey?

I don't know of any permits required.  You can buy them from a variety of game farms that raise birds.  Whenever I'm training a new dog, I buy quail and chukars and keep them in a small pen at my buddy's that we built long ago just for that purpose of training.  You can train on certain areas of certain WMAs and there is a link to dog training on them here:  http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/dogtrain.htm
