remingtonman1108 Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Headed out yesterday morning to fish the Ocean City Reef with my brother, dad and Uncle. We have been on the fluke pretty good in the bay but figured since the weather was right we would run outside. When we we arrived we dropped down the lines the bite was slow. There was a couple dozen other boats out and no one was doing much. The skates were the only thing we were catchin at first. Then we pulled a couple short fluke only with some sea robins. My brother did finally hook into something nice. He was using his bay setup (Penn spinfisher with 15lb high viz braid) and hooked into a nice 6ft Thresher. He had fun reelin it for about 10 mins while the shark toyed with him a bit. He was running a "fluke killer" pre-rigged fluke rig and the Thresher bit on the killies. Was tough to get a shot of the shark before it broke off next to boat (was hoping to do a clean release). It was a fun day with little action but any day on the water is good in my opinion. BowhunterNJ Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Cool trip and pics Bob! I haven't fished down south much for fluke, but it's traditionally considered a whole lot better farther north. If possible, I'd recommend heading up to Belmar or the Atlantic Highlands...much better keeper ratio.
