Axiom
… Or you may find yourself spending big bucks to fix it… Been noticing my best buddy dragging his butt on the lawn for a couple weeks now.. Nothing to unusual I thought. His anal glands sometimes get clogged and so this is how he squeezes out the excess juice. However, this time his usual method of self-relief apparently didn’t work.. Last few days he’s been acting antsy, hasn’t been eating well and generally been acting like he’s got something up his butt.. And so he did… After noticing he didn’t eat a thing last night and hearing him whimpering under the back deck for no apparent reason I called the vet for an emergency visit.. Got to the vet and found a maggot nest near his tail and around his anus.. The whole area was red and swollen from infected glands..and looked like the back end of a dead carcass with all those white squirmy little parasite like critters crawling around.. It was terrible…. Vet took care of business and prescribed a bunch of medications.. Total punishment for not paying attention?.................. $467.00 and counting... Haskell_Hunter
I found the topic interesting and informative. However, yeah, don't wear a deer suit in the woods during hunting season. Just sayin'... Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.
BowTechExperience
Good point about paying attenion to our pets, but Dude, sometimes it is a good idea to withhold some of the minute details.
Spent Brass
That is pure neglect on your part.A dog that is draging his butt on the ground is cause for immediate concern. He could of had worms impacted anal glands recived a injury from a forigen object and you let it go for a week.People like you make pet owners look bad BHC and Rdfhunter 2 Hunting and fishing is not a sport to me its a way of life:rock:

Axiom
But you had that rather informative post on dog foods??? You must have stock in holiday inn express Actually that thread you're referring too was about dog sh*t and how much more, shall we say, tolerable it is when dogs are on more of a natural diet... I caught my wife and kids feeding the dog junk food for days on end a couple weeks ago.. this resulted in soft stool.. Now if you know anything about animals you'll know they leave there personal ID when they pass their daily meals.. This is achieved when normal, firm stool passes through the rectum. The firmness puts pressure on the scent glands thus squeezing out fluid.. If the stool is soft, no such transfer occurs.. This in turn can cause the sacks to become over full and infected.. My theory is, thats exactly what occured in this case... My poor buddy. He aint a happy camper right now...
