Ok Im wanting to fish the Raritan. Ive never fished the bay before. Im more of a atlantic city south and around the Delaware bay fisherman. How much weight do I need to fish the bay out of say keyport? How fast are the normal drifts there for you guys? Any Advice?

Depends where you fish, depths vary from a few feet to 60+ feet in the channels. Definitely bring a mix of weights if fishing bait or buck tails. Fishing the channels is usually productive. When in doubt you can follow the crowds.

You need a pretty good mix like Matt said. The nice thing up there is that you have alot of choices of where to go. Two to four ounces usually does the channels and the bay, but have some one and sixes.

Keyport 1 buoy has been producing some nice fish. Raritan Reach and Sandy Hook channels have been pretty good lately too. Was out in the bay this past weekend and was fishing 2 oz - 6 oz bucktails depending on tide/wind.
