You tricked me....I thought I was coming in to congratulate you on a bird. Maybe next week!

“I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear

Zone 4 and 2 were quiet today too.. till about 11:15. Two long beards answered me.

At about 11:30 Both Gobblers and two hens came to my calls and were standing 10 FEET from Brenda but to her hard right.

One bird started PUTT'N ...They all turned to leave and she swung and MISSED!

Mike, last year I saw a fair amount of birds and even heard them, besides me 4 other guys I spoke too also reported not hearing a bird. One guy said he got stopped this morning by the Game Warden, he said the Warden told him things in zone 1 are slow this week......It was 30 degrees this morning and yesterday, does the cold affect them at all?

Things are going to be slow till we get at least 2 or 3 good hatches !

We had a decent hatch last spring, and thats a good thing, It means there should be a fair amount of jakes.

The problem is...We also have a fair amount of 'jennies'. and juvenile Hens are rarely successful at raiseing a large brood of poults.

I am also starting to think that Hurricane Sandy may have something to do with the low number of birds. Along with the increase in Predators, including Bobcats and Bald Eagles. Zone 1 is also seeing an established population of Fisher and that ain't good news for Turkeys either.

zone 1 is loaded with all sort of predators, plus I'm sure the added hunting pressure doesn't help....Oh well it is, what it is
