Sneaky Gobbler does a 'Wing Tap'

This morning started out with two Jakes responding to calls from three fields away.I could see them the whole time and they were practically running to get to 'her'.

After shooing them away, I hit the other side of the hill and got a single reponse from a Gobbler.  This was a much different hunt.

He only gobbled once and came in silent and slow,,,,Soft yelps and clucks were his demise.

That's the way a lot of my turkey hunts go. Not sure if it's the pressure of public land, or just older, smarter birds. Sometimes I'll get those rowdy, hollar at everything birds, but most the time they are tight-lipped and unwilling to give away their location. Smart buggers! The fired up birds are the most exciting hunts, but any turkey is delicious!

Congrats on killing "Tommy Talk-Once" Mike. Been a beautiful Spring so far and love to see all the success stories so far.

“I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear
