Where do you want to retire?

Been "up there" many times in the last 24 years.  It's not the same.  It's getting worse.

And your "free state" community is soon to be overrun.

But please, do tell me more about your "free state" bastion of liberty and freedom that voted for Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Barack Obama, and John Kerry, and which currently has both Senators from the Democrat party.

But hey, at least the state government is still Republican.............for now.  We'll always have Paris!

That's the funny thing about you, Democrat = liberal all the time.  If it were only that simple.

My buddy's mom, who was the Democrat senate minority whip in NH for years, laments the liberal Democratic party.  Her husband is, in his own words, "to the right of Rush Limbaugh.  Neither identify or are who I would consider to be liberals.  I'll be seeing both of them this weekend.  I'll have a much better discussion about NH politics and political leanings then.

I would love to move to Sussex county but the issue is I need to find some where that is a half way point for both me and the future wife for our jobs she works in Somerset NJ

I work in mount Olive now and will be in Hackettstown working with in the next year or so.

Look into Warren County.  Lots of open space, plenty of farms, somewhat decent housing pricing and about a 30 minute drive down Rt 57 to Hackettstown.

I've made the move from NJ to the Big Island of Hawaii. God willing, it's my last stop, as I am far from being able to retire until I keal over. I considered moving before I was too old/marketabale to secure a job & plant roots.

Taking a leap of faith, my babe & my dog are enjoying paradise..There's too much to do here. ... n

This is a real thought for us and if/when I start to move forward with it, I'm going to be reaching out to you

Life is full of compromises.  While I have lived all over the country and am from California originally, my wife has done very little travel in her life and doesn't have much of a frame of reference to know where she wants to retire to.  So far, PA comes up as our most likely compromise, but we have a daughter in her senior year in high school that is planning to attend 5 years of college on the East coast to get her bachelor's and master's degrees.  Where she winds up after that will likely influence where we go.  But we have been talking about it for some time as we are in our early 50s.  And since I own my business and absolutely love what I do, truly retiring as in not working isn't even a thought right now.

We have decided that we like the four seasons but don't like winter nearly as much as the others.  We like being fairly close to the ocean, and I need to fish fresh (warm and cold water) and salt as well as hunt deer, bear, turkey, and small game.  And low taxes!  I won't care about the local schools much when I retire.  That is why I am paying taxes out of the nose currently to send our kid to a good public school.

It's not that simple?  I think you're living in 1991 if you believe that.   What are there, I believe 3 Blue Dog Democrats left in all of America?   And at least 1 of even them will be taken out in 2018.

The Democrats today are nothing like the Democrats of my childhood.  It not slightly left of center, it's legitimately Socialism, and with a handful of them, were they honest, they seem to romanticize for Communism.

I will stay in NJ. Kids live here and now a grandchild. Will see how this new tax plan with Trump and new governor plays out.

Win with Kim!!!!

Well, the new governor is going to be an anti-freedom trainwreck if even 50% of his platform is to me believed, and the new Trump tax plan is going to hurt New Jersey and other liberal states economically.  Which is FANTASTIC!!!  I LOVE that part of the proposal that eliminates the ability to take state and local tax deductions on property taxes.  Frankly that's probably just in there so they can remove it as a bargaining chip, but it's clever either way.

Life is full of compromises.........PA comes up as our most likely compromise,

This is a strong contender for me too, but it's sort of the "cowardly" choice for me, as it's a somewhat scary thing to uproot yourself and move out west, especially when you have no family or friends out there.  That's the biggest negative IMO.

Like I said, boots on the ground > what you read in the news in every case.

F.U., too!

Will you friggn' move already?!  And, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I think about that guy from NJH that moved to Montana ... and he never shut up about it. He changed his NJH screen name to "Montana" - something, and was constantly posting about his wonderful snowed-in, subzero temperature, limited-daylight house.

Always posting about how easy it is to buy any gun he wants. Never shut up, showing his gun purchases. Blah Blah. How many guns can you buy, anyway? But, it does take him a 4 hour ride to get a pizza ..... that's made with tomato soup and Cheez Whiz!

Ahhh ... I'm just joking/grouchy. Some idiot in the NFL just said I'm an "oppressor."   :headscratch:

Here's the reality.

These uber-liberal states with high property taxes (New Jersey, Connecticut, California, New York etc...) are basically being subsidized by OTHER Americans via Federal property tax deductions!

The Federal tax code is being used to enable these liberal states & their left-wing policies economically.

The most HYSTERICAL part of all this is how it's being portrayed by the media.

It's being covered in the media as if Trump wants to "hurt" Americans by removing of this tax exemption RATHER than being portrayed correctly and honestly as, "gee, maybe these left-wing states shouldn't have stratospherically high property taxes" in the first place.  If you live in a state with low or normal property taxes, this isn't going to affect you nearly as much.
