Woodrufflou Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Hey guys, i need to ask you all a favor. Alot of you guys have been to jakeabobs with me after fishing trips. Jakeabobs was a close friend of mines restaurant. Gigi Dorr, the owner lost her restaurant during hurricane sandy. Her restaurant was a staple of our small town. People came from near and far to escape the work week blues or just to have a drink and grab a bite to eat with friends. I worked there at some capacity since I was 15. Whether it was bussing tables after school, spending college summers working the fryer in the kitchen or running food or bar tending on weekends and nights after my full time job. I always had a job there. That's the kind of person Gigi is. She is the most loyal person I've ever met. Summer nights at Jakeabobs out at the tiki bar is something everybody looked forward to. I loved walking into the restaurant and seeing the regulars and having a conversation with all my "friends" there. Just to show you what kind of person Gigi is, after hurricane sandy hit our little town was destroyed. Homes ripped off their foundations and toppled over into a pile of rubble. First thing we all did was to go see how Jakeabobs was. Knowing it would be all but gone, we still had a little hope. Turning the corner onto front street, our glimmer of hope was gone. Jakeabobs was destroyed. All we could do was cry and hug Gigi who was standing outside her decimated restaurant with a blank stare. She had lost a piece of her life that she will never get back. Over the next few months, Gigi showed what she is all about. Instead of sitting around and worrying about her future and her own restaurant, she started the food pantry at boro hall. She coordinated all the sandy relief efforts in town to help people get food, shelters and supplies to clean out and ultimately try to rebuild. She was at the relief center every waking minute fielding phone calls, setting up food and supply deliveries and even riding around in the OEM bus handing out food and supplies to the townspeople. Not worrying about her restaurant but putting the townspeople first. She was a true "angel" to the town of union beach. I'm asking you guys to please send a quick email asking her to be picked for an episode of Restaurant:Impossible and have her restaurant rebuilt. Thank you guys for the help!! El Jefe Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Lou who knows how many times we have seen each other yet we don't know each other. I saw her there everytime I went with my friend to get stuff or when I went to drop off donations. My buddy also lost his house and I saw the damage to the restaurant. You might know my friends family as they have lived there all their lives. His name is Manny Gonzales, his father just pass away (Carlos) a few month back. EMAIL SEND

That name sounds very familiar. I'm sure in probably know him if I saw him. Born and raised in Union Beach. Still have most of my friends and family there. Cousin lost his home, aunt, fiancés parents and a few friends had 6 ft + of water in their homes. I volunteered for months after the storm and was in and out of 100's of houses. We probably crossed paths and didn't even know it. Small world. Gigi is a great woman "I am the MacGyver of cooking.
