Beaverkill Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hit the river this morning before the it closes until the opener..It was a 28 degrees, ice in your guides cold but it was so nice to have the water to myself...The fishing started slow but after some adjustments to my rig, I found the right setup... #16 grey scuds was the preferred breakfast.. One rainbow took me for a run almost 100 yards down the river but I eventually brought him to the net... Unfortunately, it will be some time before I have the river to myself again... BowhunterNJ Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Awesome morning! How big was that bow? Looks like a good one!
Stevo Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Nice. I used to fish the Willowemoc just above Liberty NY when I was a kid. My uncle had a trailer at the campgrounds. Hugh Browns were the target and we had a few fish over 18 inches. Do you ever fish that stretch? Sent from my flip phone with the big buttons so I can see them

I like the upper Willow.. Small water but most of the time you can have it to yourself.. Here is a pic of the creek just below the campground... Daniel Ansbach

I would have my Uncle drive me up to the bridge above the campground and I would fish my way back to camp. Sent from my flip phone with the big buttons so I can see them

sam3 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Great thread Dan. Nothing like the quiet and peace you get alone while fishing. Good stuff man.

Williemo Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Well THAT post certainly did get me geared up! Since my boys 6 & 10 have come along; I haven't had much chance to get a fly wet the way I want (I like to fly fish like most like to hunt!). Hard to do when the boys would rather jump in the river than fish it! (and who can blame them for that?!) Funny thing though, I see your post and am not jealous, but only find myself thinking "All the years I've tried and no matter what or how, I've never caught a fish on a scud!" Makes me want to get out again!
