jerseyhunter Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 The best or should I say worse was, around 8 yrs ago I had my 14 yr old in one spot on a hill side and went down about 80 yds. He calls on the radio and says he here's a deer on the ridge 30 yds above him, checks it out and it's a squirrel. This went on for about 3 hrs. He calls me again and says he thinks he hears a deer I tell him sit tight it's probably a squirrel again and to keep an eye down the valley where they are supposed to come from. So I had to pee so I leaned my gun against a rock and walk down the hill about 10'. I'm finishing up and hear a noise behind me and turn to see 3 does watching me at 20 yds the same ones my son just heard. Needless to say I do nothing without my weapon and never take any noise for granted. What hurt is that my son might have scored.
hammer08 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Lol most of the time I can tell the difference in the sound, but what gets me more is if they jump on low brush and make the whole bush shake, that movement always gets my attention Freedom is a light for which many men have died in darkness
hammer4reel Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 honestly should be able to tell the difference between the two. The cadence are not even close to the same
hiking Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 honestly should be able to tell the difference between the two. The cadence are not even close to the same Plus a 1lb squirrel makes 10 times as much noise as a 100lb deer

BHC Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 I always look, just never know. Years ago mid afternoon on opening day of the muzzleloader season I had these damn tree rats all-over and got tired of looking behind me, but then something told me to look, it was a 7 pointer at 50 or 60 yards.....At times they can sound like deer
