My cousin asked me what he can do to get rid of the cat problem his neighborhood has. Apparently, one of his neighbors puts food out for the cats and it attracts them, mating occurred and now there are pets and feral cats roaming the neighborhood. He After about 2 years of trying to talk to the town, there has been no action other than the promise to approve a leash law so they can then take subsequent action.

However, when his special needs daughter recently grabbed a fistfull of cat scat and tried to eat it, he finally lost it. He provided a few suggestions that I steered him away from (his first question to me was to ask if I owned a crossbow...), but was at a loss as to an appropriate course of action.

My question to the fine folks on this site is to ask if they have any suggestions that will repel the cats. Obviously, they can be killed or trapped, but this is not really an acceptable option for him (he is not animal control).

Any advice?

Good luck I have tried everything. I have 2 cat colonies with over 30 cats next to and right behind me. They have collapsed my pool cover and ruined 4 porch chair cushions and my flower beds are full of sh$t! the town will do nothing. Everything people have told me to use does nothing to keep them away. I know how you buddy feels.

So the towns don't have animal control for these kinds of issues?

What about contacting an animal shelter? They have many volunteers that may be willing to help trap/catch them and put them in the shelters?

He lives in a development so "traditional" options are not easy. He lives in PA, so I don't think there are laws that will apply here yet. The town recognizes the problem, but the process is slow...

I was just hoping that there was something I could tell him...

I also have thus problem. Tons of them. I was to told to trap them and they will come pick them up. They take them spay them then bring them back and release them.

He's in a rough spot. If the town isn't doing anything, he may have to take things in to his own hands. Illegal or not. Especially if its endangering his child

Our animal control was trapping the cats then going around the block and giving them back to the woman. Just to make it look like they were doing something.

Hav-a-hart trap and take them to the local shelter. Give the shelter a donation to help cover the costs of killing them if they are feral. Also, have him check the developents rules about feeding animals etc..., there might be an obscure rule in there that can be used against the lady feeding them.

We've got a "colony" nearby. Sometime they wander through my back yard. They've gotten kinda skidish lately. Seems they've learned what the sound of a window opening and a bolt closing means...

But that's OK, it's more of a challenge with the ones out at 200yds+ :)
