Dubs Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I am in the process of renovating a bathroom in my 1930s colonial. Today was suppose to to be raise the closet flange and tile the floor. Nope. As I was chiseling off the old broken cast iron flange, to my surprise, nailed a pipe, which sent a geyser of water shooting as high as the ceiling. Why was there a water pipe in that location? First off that close to the stack and through the mortar bed. Seems silly to run copper through concrete. When 4 inches lower they could have ran it through the kitchen ceiling. I had to chip the mortar away to get access to the pipe, cut and temporarily fit a new new pipe. These new shark bites are bada$$ by the way. Now the tiling job is on hold while I rerun new water lines to the second floor shower and sink. I don't trust those lines running through the mortar. I am not a plumber but I can get by with a few things;) Can any of u plumbers or contractor please tell me why they ran them there back then?
Stratus Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Glad that wasn't me!!! I can do a little plumbing but that's it. I've seen and suffered watered damage, It scares the hell out of me.
Rugman Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Nice patch job.I am a carpet layer and when I install the tackless on the floor I find water lines all over .I hate when I hit one and the people never even new they were there.
