DBuck Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I never knew they existed until I just saw something about them on line. I'm sure some of you have been there. How big are they? Are they worth visiting?
BHC Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 2nd largest fall on the east coast, of course Niagara Falls is the largest. http://www.nps.gov/pagr/index.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Falls_%28Passaic_River%29
Bucksnbows Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and a new National Park. I think they're worth visiting and I know my grandfather took me there more than 40 years ago. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
YotaTruck Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Paterson itself isn't much to look at but since the National Park designation I hear they've spruced up the area around the falls themselves. I've been meaning to check them out myself.
CJ3a Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Spruced up the area. Not sure if I would say that of the falls area. Try a hotdog at Libby's if you go. I spent most of my money on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.
jakesbeard Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 wonder how many guns are under them? Ask this guy if he see's any.
joe987654321 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 They are definitely worth seeing. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy so plan your visit appropriately. If you go, I recommend that you stop at Libbys for a hot dog and visit the Paterson museum. (all 3 are within 2 blocks of each other) The Paterson museum has a nice collection of Colt revolvers that were manufactured in Paterson below the falls in the 1800's when the falls were used to power the factories. Remnents of the Colt factory are downstream of the falls.
Bucksnbows Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I do know that from working with National Park Service on the Musconetcong (Wild & Scenic River), that when Great Falls NP first opened and NPS advertised for a Parks Director, they didn't even get one single application. Not even one person in the US wanted to take a chance to head up a new Park and cut their teeth before moving up to a larger Park. That has to say something about the area. But it is a very important site historically. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
