TV Repair Shop Price....Unreal !!!

I have a Sony 61" LCD works great, going to put it in the basement when I get my new 70" in a few weeks. Yesterday my wife said the TV isn't working, no picture but I have sound. So I call a repair shop up and give him the model number and details on the problem, he said with parts and labor $310. I google the part number just now, $138 easy fix it's just the bulb burnt out, I placed the order will be here tomorrow FREE shipping, place is in PA

Joe, did you troubleshoot the problem? It could be many things and id hate to see someone spend money when you dont have to. Theres lots of things to check like a bad hdmi/component cable, bad input on the tv, bad cable box, one of your kids could have switched a setting in the tv, etc...

Don't jinx yourself. I don't know anything about TV's, but....Last time I said something was an "Easy fix" (on a vehicle), I ended up pulling out every grey strand of hair on my head and spending a ton of money trying to "fix" the "easy fix".

 

My fingers are crossed for you pal that you have diagnosed the problem correctly and can fix it no problem.

It's a very easy fix that takes less then 10 minutes. I don't understand how someone can justify charging so much to fix something so simple.

Making a living I'm not against, charging $310 for 10min job for a part I paid $138 is outrages, and I'm sure the repair shops gets the part less then that

I would say 310 is about right for parts and labor. How much do you think it cost to drive back and forth to your house? How about his business insurance. NJ is not cheap to live and work in.

So, how much should he make? Any mark-up on parts to pay for his time ordring it? And how much should he get paid per hr? Taxes? Insurance in case he gets zapped or blows out the tv?

I think the price was pretty fair, if you can do it yourself thats great but the repairman has expenses that go along with his business which include insurance, federal and state taxes on profit, and he has to WARRANTY his work. It always best if you can do it yourself but a businessman has to make a living and the price while not cheap was fair.

I would have gone about it in a totally different way though. First, I would have lost my temper and gone ape-*#*# when it initially broke. I then would have proceeded to smash the entire television using my bare hands, until there was nothing left but tv dust. Throughout the skirmish I would of course somehow injure myself in the process. Resulting in doctor bills and the cost of a replacement TV.

 

But hey....to each their own.
