Woodrufflou Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Well the day weve been planning for over a month now finally came and it was time to pour some fluke candy(bucktails). Yesterday morning i woke up nice and early with anticipation of the days events. As i awaited Jeff's arrival, i packed the truck with lead, powder paint and our eyelets. Once Jeff arrived, him, myself and my fiance Danielle jumped in the truck and hit the road around 815. Quick stop for gas and we were on 287 heading up to Scrubs house. The roads were clear and it was a relatively quick ride up there. We arrived to Scrub's around 930 or so and were greeted by him and Sam. Sam was there early getting his crockpot of pulled pork setup for our lunch/dinner. A quick hello to Scrubs wife and the baby and the guys went outside and left the ladies to do whatever it is women do all day lol. Shortly after, Tom showed up with his bag of molds and other toys for us to try during the day. Little while later Mike and John showed up and we set the popup tent up and set up the turkey fryers and table. With a little snow coming down, we decided it would be a good idea to avoid a pontentially dangerous situation of melting lead and water combo and waited for an hour or so until it stopped. Now, for most of you guys and gals that know us, we are relentless with busting each others balls. So we took that hour layover and it was a free for all of ball busting. We all took our turn in the grinder and my sides actually hurt today from laughing so hard. Fast forward an hour later and the snow is done. We quickly fire up the fryers, get the lead melting, set up our fluid bases for the paint and get our hanging racks setup. While it felt like forever waiting for the lead because we were so pumped to start pouring, it finally was completely melted and it was time to POUR. Everybody had a job and the bucktails were flying out of the molds at a rapid pace. Lead into the mold, lead out of the mold, picked up, dipped into paint, hung up on the rack to dry, REPEAT! We were flying through bucktails so quickly, we had to stop every once in a while because the lead wasnt melting quick enough. Now even though the way im describing it, it makes it sound like it was all business. TRUST ME, it was not haha. The ball busting, i should really call it borderline harassment, continued and was only getting worse as the day went on LOL. During our couple minute breaks, Sam sliced up his smoked elk and venison sausage and an assortment of smoked cheeses. Thanks SAM! They were awesome! We continued this process until we ran out of paint, eyelets and hooks!! Our final total of the day was 850 2,4,6 ounce bucktails poured and another 144 sinkers up to 18 ounces poured! We burnt some lead today boys. Once we were done, we quickly cleaned up, made a beer run and sat down to some pulled pork sliders made and prepared by Sam. When i say these things were great, that is an understatement. They were outstanding!! Thanks again Sam! All in all, it was a GREAT day with good friends and i cant wait until the summer to use these bad boys with you guys. I attached some pictures starting from our ride up to Scrub's house all the way til our end of the day meal. Thanks again Scrub for having us all up for this epic pour. (I just noticed the pictures are a little out of order, but im not going back to put them in order, you guys get the point, LOL" "I am the MacGyver of cooking.
