Range Report - New AR build

Well Sunday morning it was all nice and sunny and getting warm so my buddy from Pa. came over and we went to Range14 with my finished AR build. Being this was a .223 Wylde and I used a standard .223 Go Gauge I was hoping not to get a face full of steel lol. I had loaded up some .40gr Nosler FB's with 25grns of H4895 and some Barnes 55grn TSX BT's with 24.7grns of CFE223. Both in RP brass with CCI 400 primers. Well it was friggin cold. The sun disapeared and the wind was howling at our back so hard it shook the spotting scope when you tried to look threw it. Still managed to shoot one inch groups. And my younger bud from Pa. shot one sub half inch. I was really impressed with the CFE223 which shot the best with some touching. CFE stands for Carbon Fouling Eliminator. The M16 BCG was smooth as silk. Nice little shoulder push instead of that sharp crack AR15 bolts are known for. You could see your hits threw the scope. I had also loaded some Varget behind the 40grn pills but the CFE223 is what the gun wants. Sorry no photos we were frozen and ran as soon as we were done.

NICE Stevo! I have to try some of that CFE, I know nothing about it. Have you shot it with heavier pills?

I have some 90 grainers Tom. I may try them. Need to get the Chrony out there and see the speed difference. I bet the CFE is screaming them downrande lol.

 

I bet something in the 60 range would would shoot lites out. I don't have any tho.

Thanks pal. Is it ball powder or extruded? I just got a few thousand pieces of 5.56 brass and and 55 grn bullets. Will probably pick up a shell plate for my Hornady progressive press and go into production mode for the AR rather than with the RCBS for the bolt guns.

 

Do you have a decent place to test with your chrony? If not, let me know and I can bring you over to my club.

Very cool! Sounds like an awesome, albeit frigid day! Would love to see some range, grouping, and AR pics sometime...maybe when it warms up a little!

Sorry for the hijack but perhaps I can go "recover" some of my original range reports to post
