billford Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 what i do at this time of yr is find the lilly pad beds and use a j-10 rebel minnow.i wind in just fast enough to get the lure about a foot from the bottom. dont rule out slow rolling a spinnerbait either.if you have steep gravel banks try using a perch pattern shad rap.
Palawman30 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 its not to early at all..... I used to smoke bass on the Delaware river this time of year. As a matter of fact This was my fact time of year to fish the river because the bass are just stacked up and you catch size and numbers. makosnax Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Try the north side that has a feeder stream. The sun warms the stream as it dumps into the pond. Also rain water is usually warmer than the water your fishing so same tactic applies. Clear water i would use slow natural plastics and on muddy days a slow thumping colorado blade spinner bait.
chris n Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 They are biting...traps jerkbaits and small jigs to fish or not to fish...what a stupid question
outdoorsman132 Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 I tried in a small private pond and used Yamato worms rigged wacky no luck Choot em
jerseyhunter Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I Guess you don't like trout? My favorite experiences are being alone right below Saxton Falls with snow on the banks and snow falling. Some on lookers thought I was crazy till I proved them right . Best part was you didn't need a roll cast to avoid anyone.
Zone8Hunter Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I have been thinking about going out myself too, I have been in the mood to cast some lines.
chris n Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I tried in a small private pond and used Yamato worms rigged wacky no luck did you fish them super slow with limit action? I dont like soft plastics this time of year. They have too much movement a lot of times which isnt very natural in this cold water. Most fish are hardly moving around and they arent energetic. Your wacky rigged senko was moving a lot...doesnt look as natural this time of year. This week coming up with the predicted warmed weather and rain the water temps should climb into the 40s and by late afternoon some fish may move shallower becoming more active...try throwing smaller profile jigs, jerkbaits and traps near dropoffs adjacent to deeper water. Fish will hang in and around old weedbeds/pads and around wood and chunk rock. They all warm up and fish will relate to it. to fish or not to fish...what a stupid question
