IPA home brew for me.What the hell is this stuff that passes for beer today? Fruit, panties and god knows what else they put their brew isn't beer.

Ummm.......  your wife's friends were drinking "normal" beer.  Much closer to to "real" beer than the mass produced and inexpensively made junk.
