slugger Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I killed a Black Bear in Maine back in August 2012 and my dad and I would like to cook some meals out of it. Does anybody have any recipes for black bear? Stew sounds pretty easy to make. If you do know any, please share! Thanks.
Spent Brass Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I have had it Swedish meatballs style and it was pretty goodI like it in stew the best.I a large frying pan brown the meat.Take meat add to crockpot add potatoes carrots onion cellery cover with beef broth add salt and pepper to taste and 1 box witch has 2 packets of looting soup mix.cook for 8 hours. At the eight hour mark add medium size container of sour cream and stir around.Let it cook for another half hour and serve with Italian bread. I usualy throw it together before work and its done when my wife gets home. Hunting and fishing is not a sport to me its a way of life:rock:

bigwuhead Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 We've done bear steaks on the grill, bear burgers. I've used ground in meatloaf, shepherds pie and I just did a hot bear sausage and shrimp creole a couple of weeks ago. Cooked right and to your personal liking we actually really like bear meat.
LittleM Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Jersey bears are mostly corn-fed and as such, taste pretty good with little preparation. For steaks, we rub with olive oil and coat with Montreal Steak Seasoning and grill. In the summer, we make a foil pouch with ground bear, potatoes, onion, celery, and black beans with some worchestire (sp???) and A1 Steak Sauce or salsa and wrap up and cook over the camp fire.
slugger Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Thanks everyone, all your recipes sound good!
