Batsto
This predator must have been hit during deer week. Looks like a 50 pounder. Big! Found in the Winslow WMA. Haskell_Hunter, Rusty and 3Blade
mazzgolf
I heard yotes yapping and howling one morning on the edge of Winslow WMA about a month ago - so close to houses I thought instead there was a dog kennel near by. I can't believe how many I am seeing and hearing this year. I never heard them last year, but this year I see and/or hear them alot.
BenedictGomez
I haven't seen an update from the state biologists, does anyone know if there's been one recently? I have to believe their population has boomed, as I agree, I'm seeing WAY more than I used to. I used to see a coyote every handful of years, now it's every handful of months. And with the window open in the summertime it can sometimes sound like a western movie late at night. Batsto
I really don't know much about rules and regs on Coyote hunting, but it may time for a bounty. I usually shoot 6 shot when chasing pheasants or woodcock, but I may start carrying a heavy BB goose load. This is one of birds today..... mazzgolf
> I really don't know much about rules and regs on Coyote hunting, but it may time for a bounty. As I understand the regs, this time of year predator hunting is no different than any small game hunting. If you are hunting pheasant and you come across a yote or fox they are fair game. This is because (assuming you are legally hunting small game already) you already have your orange and you already have ammo that is legal. See bottom chart on page 54 of the digest. (note: BB would be illegal - have to hunt with legal small game ammo) The only time it's different is during special permit season (and you have the permit) - you can leave home the orange, you can use rifle during the day and you can hunt at night with larger shot than normally allowed for small game. Also, it's different for deer hunting because you are normally hunting with buck shot (larger than allowed for small game) - that's one reason they have a specific blurb in the law that says deer hunters can take yotes incidental to deer hunting. Batsto - last year me and two friends hunted at night next to one of Winslow's pheasant fields - had the Fox Pro calling out to 'em but we didn't see a thing, I think the yotes are too smart for me. Haskell_Hunter
A couple of years ago I heard yotes like there were dogs barking in the neighborhood. You'd hear them almost all night. Then I got into predator hunting. I don't hear no stinkin' yotes anymore. I look forward to predator season almost more than bow season. Nothing like taking the AR out into the field to whack some yotes...smells like victory.... Slayer1962 1 Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory. cecil973
Always heard them and seen them from afar and on trail cameras on the public land I hunt but past 2 years population has really exploded glad I shot one this year. Nice looking pic shame it went to waste better a dead wasted yote than a deer I suppose.
