English teacher refuses to grade report on guns

DENTON, Texas -

A Denton teacher allegedly refused to grade two student reports because they were about guns. Now one mother is demanded answers and an apology.

Marshall Williams said he and his classmates were told by Mr. Dewey Christian at Denton High School to write a report on anything that they were interested in using different types of sentence structures. He chose to write about the Fort Worth gun show.

But then he said his English teacher told him he would get a zero on the assignment because of the topic.

Williams' mom confronted the teacher. She asked him if he had outlined any criteria for the topic and posted a video of his response on YouTube.

"So because it had guns in it you refused to grade it?" Kimberly Williams asked.

"Not just guns, but you see we've had a certain amount of violence and things in schools…" Christian replied.

"I'm not asking you about that. I'm asking you about the subject matter of his paper and why you took issue with it," the mother said.

"The problem was not the subject matter…" the teacher said.

"You just told me it was the subject matter," the mother said.

The family demanded an apology.

Kids can't wear teeshirts with gun or military type stuff on them.

Second graders get suspended for drawing paper pistols.

I wish I could go into the political nonsense these kids have to deal with in school these days. Johnny can't read or write because they do not read or write in "Language Arts". They talk about gun control, homosexual rights, and rights of the poor to free phones and other handouts.

The family should demand more than an apology it should be a resignation. Next if a teacher dont like red cars will she say no one could rwrite about red cars. Fire this teacher.

My bet is if those kids wrote reports on having promiscuous homosexual sex while high on illegal drugs or perhaps US flag desecration they would have gotten automatic A’s

You got that right. My son had a similar experience with his Language arts teacher. His wasn't about guns though it was about hunting. His teacher tried to explain to him that HSUS and the great things they do would be a better project, this is where my 11 year old really used his head. He wrote another piece about HSUS and how they have a failing rating as a organization and 54% of their donations go to lawyers salaries and plush offices and not one dime goes towards conservation, this is where it really got good. He then proceeded to go back to talking about hunting and how millions of dollars are raised towards conservation through the purchase of hunting licenses. He then challenged her that if she really cared about animals he would show her how to purchase a license, even though she doesn't like hunting pointing out that atleast she would get some money to help the animals instead of buying a HSUS lawyer a new suit.:D Moral of the story...don't challenge a kid with good values and access to google to present facts that desimate a teachers liberal propoganda

I wrote a great essay on gun control that was 4 pages long and backed up with multiple sources and got an 80 on it. I guess I forgot to mention that the same English teacher who graded it was badmouthing guns and the NRA calling them 'scumbags' in front of class. Teachers should leave their views out of it when grading assignments, whether they agree or not.
