Beaverkill inspired me with his first What Water? post so' date=' at the risk of hijacking his good thread idea, I thought I'd post one of my own. This one is easy, but as I add to these, I'll try to make them progressively tougher.

What NJ trout stream? Be as specific as you can:fishing:

Just a guess but I'd say the lower Musky which I've never fished. But Saxton falls and below is my territory. Along with the Pequest and parts of the Wallkill. But regardless ,nice scenery an as Matt said love to be wading there now. One nice looking hole up yonder.

OK.. You got me there initially...

I actually prefer the riff around the bend... Though there are always small wild guys in this spot willing to hit something on the surface...

So do I, but we're restoring the 1/3 mile stretch that will end just at this bend pool later this year. That should add some great new water.

Musky is correct, but nobody has the location and here's a hint, it is the most popular piece of water on that 42 mile long river....

At first glance, I thought it was a section of the SBR that I fish, but looking again at the surrounding terrain I realized that was wrong.

Knowing it's the Musky now, seeing the terrain, and knowing the fact you guys are all die-hard fly fisherman, I'd say it's one of my buddy Mikes favorite places. Point Mountain, Musconetcong river somewhere between Penwell and Point Mountain Road.

“I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear

Correct, the famous "S-bend" pool in the TCA. :D

We have a project lined up to restore the 1/3 mile above this water and ending where the riffle dumps into the S bend in this picture sometime later this year. That's the overly wide stretch that nobody fishes because it lacks decent holding water.

Any plans on restoring that overly wide stretch down past the bridge? To me that's the water that's a much greater need of repair. Also is there any fear of the restoration being compromised if the dam is removed later on? Would silt from the damn removal affect the newly restored waters?

Cool! Can you show us more of Mike's favorite spots? :D

I actually don't fish that area often as its one of the more popular stretches on the river. There's very few times that I can get down there when there aren't other anglers. I prefer other off the beaten path spots that are generally wide open. Like hunting, I try and avoid people as much as possible....even if that means fewer fish or game.

Yes, we plan to restore a full mile of what we call the "Wattles property" that begins at the Point Mountain Road bridge and extends down to the Mannon Farm just above Butler's Park. NJ Audubon is our partner along with NJ Division of F&W. Because NJ Audubon gained managerial control over the state land and because they are a non-profit, they qualify for Farm Bill funding which we have applied for already. That means we should be fully funded to restore a mile of river for public access. And this is general regulations waters for all you TU bashers out there:) We'll fix the widening caused by that bridge and add lots of deeper pools, better riffles, and instream habitat like boulders and pocket water.

If you're driving down Pt Mtn Road from rt. 57, just before you get to the steel bridge, look to the left in the state's corn field and you'll see 200 large boulders that I got for free thanks to a connection from our friends at the Musconetcong Watershed Association that will be used for this project. Time frame is unknown, but could happen this calender year.

If/when we remove the Penwell Dam, we would capture all silt at that site and it would not impact any downstream restoration efforts. Good question.
