Good grief. That'll stop the criminals!

And yes Matt, ALL firearms, knives, batons, stun guns, etc...and just about anything that can be fashioned into a weapon.

“I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear

But anything can be a "weapon". A pencil can be a weapon. Your fist can be a weapon. A rock in the playground can be a weapon, or a branch from a tree in the school landscaping can be a weapon. So if you go "pick one up", you're carrying a weapon.

This state is just plain ridiculous.

The school areas is one thing, but if I read that right, it can be ANY "public" area within a given municipality...that's pretty "open" to interpretation.

God forbid there comes a day but if so, I will post a DIY shiv made from a toilet paper roll and a spork.

In NJ during 2011, 18 murders were committed with Hands, fists, feet, etc. Looks like these zones will need to be vacuums in time and space for them to be legal.

Just remember folks, these people were elected by a majority. I'm having a serious WTF moment...

An ordinance establishing a weapons free zone around the educational institutions in the municipality shall provide that any person who knowingly has in his possession any weapon while within 1,000 from the outermost boundaries of any buildings or grounds owned or leased by any school, college, university or other educational institution and used for school purposes, or while on any school bus, and possesses that weapon in violation of any law of this State shall be subject to a fine of not more than $1,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days, or both.

How many schools do you pass on the way hunting or fishing? I pass plenty.

That is the biggest problem. The way a weapon is defined is so broad they can hit you with any kind of charge no matter what you have on you.

Also the point of not allowing a "weapon" in any public place within a municipality is just insane.

I wonder how many criminals will follow these laws??:down::down:

None would be the answer.

The law does not prohibit the possession of a weapon within 1000 feet UNLESS you are violating any law (the AND part of it)....so, lawfully going hunting is not a violation. Would speeding and carrying a swiss army knife be a violation?

These people are just dumb! If the are elected officials remember this at the polls. I don't think they are but they should be kicked in the rear until their nose bleeds.

Yes. Same as carrying hollow point slugs going hunting. Someone on this site got pulled over for speeding which now negates the legal traveling to and from. Once one law is broke the rest of possession of carrying a firearm or ammo goes out the window.
