A little game... Each of these brook trout are wild and come from a different watershed...A couple come from small feeder creeks... Can you match each fish to the following region.

New Jersey

Catskills

Adirondacks

Western Maine

That would be a tough feat......obviously you fly fish and travel to do so. You ever fish the Esopus Creek in the catskills? I passed it yesterday going skiing and heard it's a great place to fish. I like the beaverkill, as do you, I assume. I prefer the AuSable. Do you fish for steelhead in the great lakes? If so, what fly is your go to?

I can't match them but the pics are great!

What do I win?

“I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear

The simple answer is no. And I'm NJ's Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture coordinator for Trout Unlimited and a TU Eastern Conservation staffer. I could show you that diversity in coloration and more right here in our NJ streams!

Give me a few minutes to do just that...:)

I can show you 3 pics of completely different looking brookies from the SBR.. But that wouldnt be a fun game... If you are confused, I can make it simple like which is a rainbow or brown..

Matty got it right... Which is ironic since Matty believes the most important fishing tool is a stringer...and he probably hasnt seen too many brookies that werent born and raised in Pequest..

What do I win?

You are now the new NJ's Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture coordinator for Trout Unlimited and a TU Eastern Conservation staffer...:D:cheers:

One of these if from PA. The others are from the Musconetcong watershed. At least one I know for a fact is a pure Heritage brook trout meaning its genetics are pure (never interbred with stocked brook trout) and it was deposited here as the Wisconsin Glacier receded through NJ some 10,000 to 15,000 years ago. We know that via DNA analysis.

I didn't know you posted the answer but I see I too got it right....

Dan, last one was NJ and was sacrificed for scientific purposes by a professor writing a book on Eastern Brook Trout. The fly was a Light Cahill in that other fish. The 2nd picture was the PA native brookie. All others from the Musconetcong watershed including the one on the measuring board which we know is a heritage fish from a Musky tributary.
