BHC Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Just heard that my department is looking into changing over to different handguns. Currently we carry on duty H&K USP Full size .40 S&W, looks like the change will be with Smith & Wesson M&P Full size .40 S&W. Has anyone own or shot the M&P if so, do you like it or not? This won't take place for another year and a half to two years Glock refuses to make any changes to our departments specs, I guess over 6,000 handguns aren't good enough.

[/quote'] Did they say why they are changing? We shot glock 9's for many years. about 4 years ago we got the choice between glock 9's, 40's and 45's. I went with the 40.. Cjoutdoors Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Must be a big department. Would your dept consider changing its specs? That way glock might be an option?
BHC Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 We change every 8 years or when they feel like. The H&K USP is a very expensive gun, and expensive to maintain. We did have S&W 4046 then went to the current handgun. Our dept will not change our specs, I don't like the magazine disconnect option but our dept. likes it for liability reasons, and Glock will not add it for us
hunterdan199 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 h.k to much money plain and simple. GLOCK = TRASH
BHC Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 H&K is a very well made gun, but I agree expensive to buy and maintain. I love Glock, been carrying mine now for 17 yrs. never a problem. Just trying to find the pros & cons of the S&W M&P
flat9999 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Shot the M&P a few times and was seriously considering getting one. A few things that changed my mind. Trigger felt a little flimsy/mushy for my taste, if you look closely, you see that its hinged in the middle. I am sure that I would get used to it, but still thought that it could have been designed better. According to many reviews, the PRO model's accuracy was hit or miss (pun intended). Some claim that they shoot better than any handgun out there, while others are looking for replacement barrels and trigger upgrades immediately. I never really understood why PD's switch over to IMHO lesser guns for duty. Even the back-and-forth caliber changes don't really make sense to me either. Handguns like the P226, G22, USP are the very best combat handguns EVER made. IMHO, going to an M&P is not an upgrade.
BHC Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Flat I agree going from the H&K to the M&P is a downgrade, they did have Sig there as well, but just to expensive, they order over 6,000 handguns. But not up to me to say what changes if any are made.
Stevo Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I am no policeman but if I was I would want the best there is at my side. S&W makes a nice gun but H&K makes the best gun. IMO Sent from my flip phone with the big buttons so I can see them

Stratus Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Thanks lol. Just a few left. SW 4006 turned out to be very reliable. Started with a 669.
BHC Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 4006 or 4046? We had the 4046 I liked it but like the H& K better
Stratus Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 4006. First agency in NJ to have it. I attended NYPD range twice about 12 yrs ago. Their armorers' indicated the 4006 was their most durable and needed the least maintainence of all they were using at the time, Glock and Sig were the others.
