remingtonman1108 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 My lens just wasnt long enough today. Was standing on my dock watching the ducks and Brant go nuts. This one was the only one that got close enough to try and shoot. (with the camera that is) This is like 70% crop too. This one cropped a little more. Clearly not shooting fast enough...
BowhunterNJ Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Nice! I definitely like the cropped versions. Crazy how difficult it is to get no wing tip movement/blur. I'll be trying some new settings in FL to try to minimize that...some ultra high f/16+ and faster shutter to get the whole pic crisp. Cool set though Bob!

Should have brought my 70-200 2.8 My old trusty f/4 just doesnt cut it sometimes.
BowhunterNJ Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I think the f/4 is too little depth of field, more so with f/2.8...you'd have bokkeh instead of the movement blur. Need bright conditions and high f-stop to get the deep DOF as well as fast enough shutter

slugger Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Great pics, can't wait to see what else you can do. Always remember the rule of thumb: Start at 1/250 to freeze motion. Depending on the subject's speed, you may have to increase it. If it's still not crisp, keep cranking up that shutter speed!
