I came across this young doe this past Friday. Can some one tell me why a deer with two broken legs and a slug right to the heart is not found? Never ceases to amaze me .

maby because the deer had both legs broken by a car accident and the hole you think is a slug hole could very well be crows or other birds eating the carcass. thats the most likely case.

I would agree. A slug through the heart will not break both back legs, obviously. Doesn't look like foul play to me. Could be a mercy killing or could be scavengers eating into the body after it died from a car hit. I highly doubt a hunter killed it while hunting and couldn't find it if it had two broken legs and a round through the boiler room.

Al well and good, but why leave it if it was a mercy killing. You would think anyone would have the sense to take those steaks with them. It was too far for this deer to make it from the road with those legs. There is a steep embankment near the road 100 yards away. The chest wound is not from birds. I think they would have started with the exposed flesh.

Call the CO if you're convinced there was wrong doing. You certainly can't solve the mystery by posting on an internet site and simply assuming that a hole in a long dead deer was the fault of a shooter.

There are hundreds of possible scenarios here and none of us has any idea of what truly happened. It could be no wrong doing whatsoever. But if you think there was, a CO has the training and the resources to figure it out.

The deer would not pay the vig.

This isn't the first deer I found in this area that looked like wanton waste to me. You are right though, I should not assume. Just as others should not, either. The first picture shows the deer as found. It wasn't until I turned it over did I see any wounds. Calling the CO did cross my mind. At this point any suspects would be long gone. And again, I don't see this deer or ever saw any deer with broken legs go so far.

If you've seen it before, than it's probably still a good idea to let the CO know so he/she can keep an eye out for bad behavior. Just a suggestion.

I once spined a deer with the muzzleloader and chased it for hundreds of yards before i caught up with it. It was running with front legs only dragging the rest of its body. Still running faster than me.

They are known to do incredible things, but I never heard of that with a spine shot. You must be pretty slow...:)
