Dave B. 197 Posted April 3, 2023 Haven’t fished the opener for at least twenty years. Spent a lot of those saturdays doing opening day angler surveys for F&W at various south Jersey ponds including Oak, Grenloch and Tuckahoe. Opening day hasn’t been the same since my Dad was no longer able to make it due to health issues, and now that he’s been gone since 2010 I have zero desire to make that trip, especially since it often falls on Easter weekend. I’ll be out there the following weekend Fri thru Sun fishing out of the way areas for solitude and the occasional trout. Good luck to all who venture out! Coyoteslayer and kohunter 2 Link to comment

Sorry man I feel ya father son aspect definitely huge for opening day. I'll be with mine. In snow and in tee shirt weather we go always. Main reason I bought the trout boss was that guy got his own kayak!!! Now my dad lives in Florida and snook fishes instead!! Dave B. 1 Link to comment
Joint Venture 80 Posted April 3, 2023 Rented a cabin @ Stokes and will hit the Flatbrook. It is all about the kids who we will have with us. My Dad will be joining also - has to be his 60th opening day or something like that. Dave B. 1 Link to comment
Bucksnbows 14,081 Posted April 3, 2023 I'm headed out now. No need to fish elbow to elbow. NJ has year round trout fishing for those that like C&R. The Hendricksons are popping. Dave B., hammer4reel, Coyoteslayer and 1 other 4 Link to comment
LanceinNJ 522 Posted April 3, 2023 I'll be at our trailer in Sussex and may try to get out in the afternoon with my GF. I found a small stream that gets worked pretty hard, but she always manages a few. Just hoping the weather is nice, so I can get leaf duty and all the other opening maintenance done. My Dad started me at 5, this year would’ve been my 60th opener had I chosen to go. When I was very young we would always hit Stephens for opening day but after some years that became such a mad house of people we start3d hitting the KLG for the opener, which back then was general regs from Dec. 1 to the end of the second weekend of the season in April. Anymore it’s just not the same. My son doesn’t go anymore, my grandson was always too involved in sports to have time for it, so it’s just me and a close friend or two, but usually I’m alone which I don't necessarily mind frankly.
